District 1 Youth Poets Recognized by CAR

Tarrytown, NY, November 1, 2009: Fifth Grader Mary Rourke received a First Place Certificate from Central Atlantic Region of National Garden Clubs, Inc., in NGC's 2008 youth poetry contest. Ms Rourke was sponsored by Mt Airy Clay Breakers.
Sixth grader Thomas Leonard, also sponsored by Mt. Airy Clay Breakers, received a poetry certificate from CAR in the same contest.

The annual NGC youth poetry contest is open to students from Kindergarten through 9th grade.

CAR Conference: Half Moon Over the Hudson

Tarrytown, NY, November 1, 2009: Central Atlantic Region of National Garden Clubs, Inc. held its annual conference "Half Moon Over the Hudson" amidst the Hudson Valley Dutch settlements in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's exploration of the Hudson River for the Dutch East India Company. Marigold Harding, Jamaica, took Henry Hudson's exploration of the Hudson River as the theme of her floral designs following the luncheon; the display was momentary--we only caught Henry Hudson's ship The Half Moon and a novel arrangement representing river turbulence:
